Are You a Highly Sensitive Person? Here’s What You Need to Know

Living as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)

Something you might not know about me is that I’m actually an HSP, Highly Sensitive Person. And no, it’s not a trendy term or a label I gave myself. It’s a physiological trait, which means I was born this way. This is how I’m wired, and there’s nothing I can or want to change about it.

Here’s the surprising part: there are over one billion people on Earth who are also HSP. That’s around 15–20% of the global population. Yet, so many of them don’t know it. And that’s why I’m writing this, because when you don’t understand your sensitivity, life can feel a lot harder than it needs to be.

What It Really Means to Be HSP

Being an HSP simply means that your nervous system is extra alert, it picks up on things most people don’t even notice. You’re tuned in to your surroundings on a deeper level. The mood of a room? You’ll feel it instantly, before a word is spoken. A shift in someone’s energy? You’ll catch it without trying. It’s like your body is constantly scanning and collecting information, and while that can be incredibly insightful, it can also feel exhausting.

On top of that, the senses, light, sound, smell, often hit harder. For some, bright lights feel overwhelming; for others, it’s strong scents or loud environments. Personally, for me, it’s noise, I just can’t handle it for too long. That’s why many HSPs need more time alone. It’s not about being antisocial; it’s about giving the mind and body space to sort through everything it’s been absorbing. We recharge in quiet the same way others might recharge in company.

The Gift of Sensitivity

Being highly sensitive isn’t only about the challenges, it’s also a gift. When you feel everything more deeply, love becomes more powerful, creativity feels richer, and art takes on a whole new level of beauty and detail. There’s a depth to life that HSPs get to experience that others might miss.

The struggle usually comes when sensitivity is misunderstood. People might label you as “too sensitive,” “shy,” “weak,” or “introverted.” But none of those labels are the truth. You’re not broken, you’re simply wired differently. And once you understand that, you stop apologizing for it. You stop putting yourself down. You start embracing who you are and that’s where your power lives.

Why I’m Creating a Space for HSPs

At Inwords Gifting, I want to create more than just beautiful products. I want to build a community where HSPs feel seen, heard, and cared for. That’s why I’ll be dedicating a special day on the store to celebrate Highly Sensitive People.

If you relate to what I’ve shared, you might be an HSP too. And if that’s the case, I’d love to hear from you. Leave a comment, send a message, or just start a conversation, because sometimes, the simple act of knowing you’re not alone makes all the difference.

✨ Your sensitivity isn’t a weakness—it’s your power. And the world needs more of it.
